II would like to thank my original teacher and teacher of my heart Jana Draka, her teacher ZenKei Blanche Hartman, my current teacher Doug Jacobson and all the ancestors in my lineage. The idea of tipping is fraught with issues, even outside Buddhist culture. The advantage of Buddhism is that dana (or as I understand it a gift) is not restricted by custom to merely money, so the tip suggests to me an action or a recommendation instead. Ten percent tip? 15? 20? Take a moment to look at the menu and see what the prices look like. start with thinking of a tip that will cover a good simple appetizer or drink and then pretend the wait person can join me. At the end of the meal I look the person in the eye as I express that desire to them Each person seeks affirmation- and giving money isn't the only way to affirm others, sometimes it's easier and more impactful to give them moral encouragement or talk them up to other people such as a boss. The use of the Eightfold Path is powerful in this instance. The Eightfold Path is an amazing thought tool. The ideas presented in it suggest thought of the wait-person and their situation. Putting myself In their shoes, I see a joy in serving but also a resignation that patrons will be unduly mean to them. I choose to emphasise the joy. This talk is the original written words and the generated A.I. voice of one that has been called a Bodhisattva and has taken the Bodhisattva vows. I hope that I have seen you as a being in your infinite glory. I hope that I have helped dissolve delusion with these deluded words. I hope that I have opened new learning gates for you. To me, the Buddha's way is unsurpassable, I hope you become what you find unsurpassable.
